Pitching Screen (optional)

A pitching screen will be team optional. Team must furnish
their own screen only if the event director cannot provide a
pitching screen.
If a pitching screen is used - Pitchers using a pitching screen
must toe the pitching plate when delivering the pitch.
If a pitching screen is used – The pitcher can’t touch the batted
ball until another defensive player touches the ball first. Once
another defensive player touches the batted ball, the pitcher may
engage on defense.
If a pitching screen is used - If the pitcher interferes with the
batted ball, dead ball will be called, the batter will be awarded first
base and runners will advance to the next base.

If pitching screen is used - Any batted ball hitting the screen
s used - Any batted ball hitting the screen will
be a strike
If pitching screen is used - Screen placement may not be
moved for the entire inning once the first pitch of the inning is
thrown with the exception of the screen being moved during a
defensive play. Pitching Screen placement may be no more than
4 feet in front of the pitcher's plate and must cover at least half
the pitcher's plate “left to right” or “right to left” on the pitcher’s
glove hand side.
(EXCEPTION) A new pitcher enters the game.
(EXCEPTION) The screen is hit by a batted ball and it
moves and needs to be readjusted.
(EXCEPTION) The screen is moved by a defensive player
during a play and needs to be returned to the original
placement.
(EXCEPTION) If the screen leg interferes with pitching
(some brands have long legs), the pitcher may adjust the
screen away from the pitching plate towards home plate.
Umpire will determine how far is acceptable.

Home Run Rule / Courtesy Runner

5 Home Runs and 1 Up

Addiional Home Runs are singles

All  games will be Time Limit.   After 60 minutes, we will finish the current inning and play 1 more

Courtesy (Bandit) Runner

  • The Bandit Runner (BR) may be anyone on the roster.
  • The BR must be designated before the game begins This is tied to the player and not a position in the lineup or on the roster.
  • The BR will be the Bandit Runner for the remainder of the game. The BR may run for anyone at any time.
  • If the BR is also in the batting lineup, and his turn at bat occurs while he is on base, his position in the batting order will be an out. If the BR’s “Turn at Bat” occurs and the BR is ON BASE, an out will be recorded for his position in the batting order. There are NO exceptions. His “turn at bat” occurs when the previous batters turn at bat has ended. “Play Ball” or “Batter Up” need not be indicated for his turn at bat to occur. There shall be no other penalty other than an out.
  • The BR role may not be substituted. A Bandit Runner may be replaced on the base only by the player he is running for at the time. The Bandit Runner role is then lost for the remainder of the game.
  • If anyone other that the BR assumes a position on the base to run for another player and is not announced prior to touching the base as a legal substitute the baserunner at that base will be declared out.

Runner for the Pitcher

  • In addittion to the “Bandit Runner”  the pitcher will be allowed a runner other than the Bandit Runner If the Bandit is on base or in jeopardy of being on base when it is his turn to bat. This “pitcher runner” may be anyone on the roster. If his turn to bat occurs and he is occupying a base he will be “out at the plate”.

Adopted State Rules

State rules in the link below  https://ncslowpitch.usssa.com/state-rules/

  • Floating Rubber Pitchers will not be required to “toe” the pitching rubber. They may be up to 6’ behind the pitching rubber and within the pitching box.   (Seniors Play National Rule)
  • Starting lineups   Teams may start with 8 players. Teams starting with 8 or 9 do not have to take an out for the missing players. Teams starting with less than 10 may add up to 10 when available but they must be added to the bottom of lineup.
  • A Batter who “bats” a ball, Fair or Foul, with an illegal bat will be declared out. This is an         “APPEAL PLAY” which must be appealed by the defense before the next pitch is thrown
